Biz Buzz in Union Square

We like to keep you up to date on the latest and hottest businesses entering the Square, so you know what spots to hit when you’re out here next. As the economy picks up, there’s been a flurry of activity in San Francisco’s Union Square neighborhood with more to come this summer, and we have all the juicy tidbits right here.

In the retail department, Swarovski just opened a gorgeous new flagship store right off of Union Square Park on Geary Street. Cascading crystals adorn the walls of this dazzling new outpost for the renowned crystal artisans. The new store is filled with sparkling jewelry, fashion accessories, home accessories and more. Also on the docket in the luxury goods department is a lavishly spacious new Bottega Veneta, moving just down the street from 108 to 140 Geary Street. The new store by the high-end Italian leather goods brand will be more than twice the size of the former space with room for both men’s and women’s sections as well as a dedicated travel section. Watch for the new space to open in the next few weeks.

Our friends in the Westfield San Francisco Centre have been enjoying no less commotion. A brand new shiny Sur la Table opened on the Concourse level of the mall. The new shop is an epicurean’s dream come true, offering every manner kitchen accessory and free knife sharpening for the month of June. Speaking of culinary delights, Westfield’s newest restaurant Cupola just opened its doors. The elegantly designed Neapolitan pizza eatery is serving artisanal Italian fare with a nod to California. Also coming to Westfield this summer is J Crew’s younger sister store Madewell. The new store will be the first in the Bay Area and offers a selection of edgy chic denim, separates and accessories.

Down the line for the Union Square area this summer is an ING Direct Café opening at 101 Post Street. While the bank mainly functions online, the cafés are designed to inspire and educate patrons and will also offer Peet’s Coffee & Tea. On the other side of the Square, Ponzu will soon be transformed into Jasper’s Corner Tap & Kitchen, a gastro pub style restaurant by Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants with Chef Adam Carpenter at the helm. Jasper’s will feature food that pairs nicely with their wide selection of beers, but rumor has it that the restaurant will also have a formidable cocktail list with former Burritt Room lead bartender Kevin Diedrich designing the program.
