Fit for Fall: Tips from Active Sports Clubs Union Square

The holiday season is here and even though Halloween can be fun, it can trick us into overindulging. As one of the Personal Trainers for Active Sports Clubs Union Square and Nob Hill, I always coach my clients to stay active have fun, and set small achievable goals along the way for better success.

To help you through the Halloween madness, here are a few of my fitness & nutrition tips.

Fitness Tip #1

Do you find it difficult to fit in a workout with your busy schedule? Give high intensity intervals (HIIT) a try. HIIT consists of quick intense bursts of exercise interspersed with short, active-recovery periods. Not only will you torch major calories in a short amount of time, but you’ll also have a greater chance of preserving lean muscle mass than when you perform traditional cardio.

Fitness Tip #2

Circuit the exercise. Perform each exercise for 1-minute and then repeat.

  • TRX™ Squat to Row
  • Kettlebell Swings
  • Alternating Battler Rope Waves
  • Battle Rope Jumping Jack
  • Dumbbell Bicep Curl
  • Plank

Nutrition Tips

It’s easy to forget about eating healthy and slip up when going out or just running errands. I simply recommend you BRING FOOD when in doubt. While I personally keep pre-packed Tupperware or storage bags with me at all times, I realize that it’s not for everyone. Keep one of these foods in your bag/purse to keep your hunger in check:

  • Snack packs of almonds
  • Trail mix
  • Banana
  • Protein Bars (Watch the sugar intake)
