Jewels in the Square: The Hidden Jewel of San Francisco Entertainment

Looking for something to do on your lunch break this spring and summer? Or perhaps, you want some Sunday afternoon entertainment, but don’t want to spend a ton of money on tickets? Stop by Union Square and catch Jewels in the Square, a completely free series of uniquely San Francisco-oriented performances happening in Union Square from April through October.

Jewels showcases both established and emerging artists, many of whom are San Francisco natives. Many performances in the series include a chance for audience participation. Dance lovers can get in on sultry salsa and tango events and lively swing dancing parties. Highlights also include two open air movie nights (When Harry Met Sally on July 16th and Roman Holiday on August 27th), many talented local and national musicians and several kid-friendly events such as interactive dance group AXIS Dance Company and the Picklewater Free Circus Festival. The program also offers several multi-cultural events that draw upon the diverse community that makes up this city.

The program takes place on the main stage of the historic Union Square Park. Performances are generally held on Wednesdays at 12:30 pm and 6 pm, and on Sundays at 2 pm. Jewels in the square is in its xth year and is sponsored by MJM Management Group and the San Francisco Parks Trust. For more information you can visit their website, or check out our events section.
