Guest Post by the Team at Jins Eyewear
Union Square is a hub of fashion and design innovation and starting today, San Francisco’s shopping mecca will feature a store unlike any that’s ever been seen before. The massive 4,900 square foot space is filled from top to bottom with glasses, but size is only the beginning of what sets the first JINS Eyewear U.S. location apart.
The store itself is a dichotomy of eras and styles. Amidst the fully exposed bricks and beams from days gone by are hints of 21st century technology interspersed with thousands of glasses. The frames come in 1,200 unique styles and colors like Mint Chocolate Chip and Fireflies. And, although you may think they would get lost in such a large space, the simplicity of the store layout and the meticulously organized grid system keep the frames in focus.
Frames, architecture and furnishings all lead up to the star attraction; a lens-edging robot affectionately known as Kanna. This giant robot makes the magic happen and is the reason JINS is able to make glasses in under 30 minutes. After choosing frames and checking out, you’ll have the option to spend 30 minutes watching Kanna’s robotic arms and shiny conveyer belt transform the otherwise too-large lenses into ones perfectly fit to frames of your choice.
After Kanna is finished, it’s business as usual. JINS team members align and adjust the glasses to make sure they’re perfectly fitted. From there, the only thing left to do is pick out your next pair. JINS’ vision is for every customer to have multiple pairs for multiple occasions, and their affordability makes this a feasible reality. If you’re not up for choosing another pair that day (it’s a hard choice to make!), you can always come back, and JINS will store your prescription for you.
The only thing left to worry about? The rest of your outfit. But this is Union Square so that most certainly will not be a problem. Visit us at 151 Powell St. www.Jins.com.
