The Revival of the Mystic Hotel: A Union Square Gem

**Guest Post by the team at the Mystic Hotel

The transformation is complete – after Charlie Palmer (world-famous chef and hotelier extraordinaire) took over the Mystic Hotel (formerly the Crescent Hotel) on Stockton St., he decided to spruce the place up a bit. This resulted in 16 newly designed rooms, including seven suites, the opening of a fabulous restaurant – the Burritt Tavern, the re-opening of the Burritt Room, the hotel’s film-noir inspired bar and the unveiling of Berlinetta Lounge, a lustrous private event space.

Stylish Comfort: The Rooms

The 12 suites were redesigned to capture sleek, urban style with a nod to the hotel’s Victorian past. They feature monochromatic white palette textiles with bright poppy accents, offset by exposed brick walls and bay windows, creating a homey yet stylish look. Chef Palmer revived the 16 largest rooms to feature walnut furniture and polished steel accents. Several suites even have original steel beams coated in a vibrant Golden Gate Bridge “International Orange.”

Cocktails a la Noir: The Burritt Room

Named after the infamous alleyway in The Maltese Falcon, The Burritt Room is the hotel’s bustling bar. Perfect for a casual, pre-dinner libation the Burritt Room is devoted to the craft of cocktails. You’ll know this if you speak to lead mixologist Josh Trabulsi who has an encyclopedic knowledge of spirits and a passion for creating delicious, well-balanced cocktails.

Americana Elevated: The Burritt Tavern

The Burritt Tavern offers a nice compliment, serving Palmer’s signature style of progressive American cooking with Executive Chef Luke Knox at the helm. Knox sources fresh, local ingredients whenever possible, featuring items like Cowgirl Creamery cheese, California halibut, Sonoma chicken and other regionally sourced items when available. As you dine, you’re surrounded by soft light and vintage photographs from the San Francisco Historical Society. You can even reserve a curtained off booth for a truly intimate meal.
