Street Style Report Union Square: Fall to Winter Edition

To help you look your best this winter, we had our local style detective Nance Howell go out in seek of fashion-friendly folks for our winter street style report. What we learned - winter doesn’t have to mean frumpy, bulky clothes – just throw on a sweater or maybe a long skirt with leggings and you’re ready to go. Check out these four fashionable locals and get inspired for a stylish winter.

Style Subject #1: Jessica Johnson
Occupation: dressmaker/interior designer

1.) Describe your current style in 3 words:
 Unique, avant garde, uncontrived.

2.) What clothing item or accessory are you coveting that will transition your wardrobe from fall to winter?
Leather driving gloves.

3.) What trend will you not be wearing this winter?
Tall boots over jeans, it’s so last year.

4.) What is your signature scent?
Kilian, Typical Me.

5.) What do you love most about working in Union Square?
The inspirational flair European tourists bring to an otherwise business casual San Francisco.

Style Subject #2: Melanie
Occupation: Art advisor

1.) Describe your current style in 3 words.

(I'm exceeding the 3-word limit!) Classic with a twist, add a little boho-chic, natural.

2.) What clothing item or accessory are you coveting that will transition your wardrobe from fall to winter?

I love that jewel and neutral-toned silk blouses will continue into the fall, so a beautiful cape, blazer or warm fitted sweater would help to keep warm while wearing them and also allow for new combinations and different looks.

3.) What trend will you not be wearing this winter?

I'm not very interested in the metallic fabrics, but this is mostly because I don't envision them as being very soft to the touch. I love fabrics that are soft and lush.

4.) What is your signature scent?

Tom Ford Jasmine Rouge

5.) What do you love most about working in Union Square?

It a great place to experience the buzz of the city, and you never know who you will meet.  It's a combination of local SF residents and those in town from other cities, states and countries for business or to enjoy the city.

Style Subject #3: Phillip Gums III
Occupation: President of JE Model Inc.

1.) Describe your current style in 3 words.

classic, comfortable, approachable

2.) What clothing item or accessory are you coveting that will transition your wardrobe from fall to winter?

I have a great Donna Karen raincoat that I will be rocking this winter.

3.) What trend will you not be wearing this winter?

Puffy coats – I’m more of a trench kind of guy.

4.) What is your signature scent?

I sport “Eua de PGIII,” as in me fresh out the shower with lots of lavender lotion. I rarely wear cologne, and if I do its Issey Miyake.

5.) What do you love most about working in Union Square?

I love being able to walk out of my office and people watch. It’s one of the best places to do so in the city, and we get a lot of international traffic around here. You hear tons of different accents and languages, and there are a lot of great places to grab lunch like Café Bellini and Bar Norcini on Powell St.

Style Subject #4: Vicki Winston

Occupation: Modernist Specialist, Neiman Marcus

1)Describe your current style in 3 words:
Bohemian, equestrian, new romantic.

2)What clothing item or accessory are you coveting that will transition your wardrobe from fall to winter?
I was coveting Rick Owens blistered leather leggings, from here at Neiman Marcus. They will transition from fall to winter quite well with some strategic layering.

3) What trend will you not be wearing this winter?

I will not be wearing geometric patterned clothing - a trend that is not me at all. I try to stay close to my personal style. If a current trend is in my closet already, it's simply a bonus.

4) What is your signature scent?

My signature scent today is Un Jardin Sur Le Nil by Hermes - "a perfume of light and life, generous and sparkling". It's a great unisex fragrance.

5) What do you love most about working in Union Square?

What I love the most about working in Union Square is being at Neiman Marcus, where I have worked for 16 years, and enjoying the most beautiful corner on the square. I am so lucky to have all these windows and the amazing Rotunda that was saved and reinstalled from The City of Paris, where my Grandmother used to shop. I am always surrounded with some of the most beautiful things in the world!
