The Top 10 Cafes in Union Square SF

Looking for a quick bite on the go or a cup of coffee to jolt you into action? These cafes are some of our favorite go-to spots in Union Square for when you’re on the go.

Café La Taza – 470 Post St.

Your corner café with a Latin twist; go here for a quick cup of coffee or try their Mexican Mocha for a real treat! They also offer a wide variety of breakfast and lunch options.

Café Madeleine – 43 O’Farrell St.

Go here for the coffee but stay for the decadent desserts with French flair, like fresh fruit tarts, absolutely sinful éclairs and more!

Bancarella & Emporio Rulli Cafe– 350 Powell St.

You really can’t beat their locale, right on the park with a lovely outdoor seating area to boot! We recommend the cappuccino with one of their special Italian pastries.

Nespresso – 90 Grant Ave.

If you have some time, the Nespresso Café is an upscale way to enjoy your afternoon latte. They only offer a few limited items to-go. Instead, choose from an impressive selection of Grand Cru espressos to create the perfect coffee drink for your taste buds. Stay for a full lunch and get our favorite – the fancy grilled cheese!

Caffe Central – 170 O’Farrell St.

Pour over coffee is the name of the game here. Try their special chicory blend. They also have freshly made smoothies and juices.

Boudin Sourdough Bakery & Café – 171 O’Farrell St.

This café is the creator of the world-famous original San Francisco Sourdough French Bread, which is baked with the same mother dough starter used in 1849. We recommend their sourdough pizza or the clam chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl.

Café Encore – 488 Post St.

This local favorite is the perfect place to grab a delicious breakfast sandwich on the go. When you need something sweet, try one of their real fruit smoothies.

Bio French Organic Cafe – 75 O’Farrell St.

This unique spot, boast a wide variety of dishes catering to dietary restrictions from gluten-free to vegan. We can’t get enough of their house salads, made fresh daily, baguette sandwiches and house-made gluten free pastry.

Sutter Café – 330 Sutter St.

A hidden gem, this café is tucked away in the Sutter Stockton Garage (enter on Sutter St.), and they offer delicious house-made tamales and sandwiches.

Starbucks – 201 Powell St., 462 Powell St., 390 Stockton St., 222 Mason St.

We’d be remiss in not mentioning the 4 Starbucks locations in our neighborhood. Of course, we don’t need to tell you what to expect here, but we do know these are the cream of the crop locations with many of the La Boulange-inspired pastries and sandwiches available.
