Top Salons in Union Square Share Makeup & Beauty Trends for Fall/ Winter 2016

**Guest Post By: Nishat Jannah and Ali Moss from Atelier Emmanuel, Deborah Pannier, Nuria Perez and Sheila Vergara from LaBelle Day Spas & Salons and Wendy Malla from Absolute Esthetics.

Fall and winter is upon us, and that means that it’s time to switch up our beauty regimens! In this week’s guest blog post some of the best stylists, estheticians, and makeup artists from the top salons and day spas here in The Square dish on the hottest makeup, hair, nail and beauty tends as well as share tips and tricks for maintaining perfect skin this fall and winter.

1.  What are some makeup trends we can expect to see this fall and winter?

“Bold and glittered lips, paired with soft brown eyes will be the look for this fall/winter. To jazz up your night look, just add matching glitter lip gloss to any dark lip to take it to the next level. Or go for shimmer on the eyes, with a taupe color lip, to shine at your holiday parties.”
- Nishat Jannah, Stylist + Makeup Artist, Atelier Emmanuel

“There’s going to be a lot of bold, sharp lips in vivid hues like matte reddish corrals and deep burgundies. But you’re also going to have the opposite; very natural, neutral looking lips that almost looked lightly stained and left over.” - Deborah Pannier, MUA at LaBelle Day Spas & Salons San Francisco

2.  What are some hair trends we can expect to see this fall and winter?

“For ladies we're definitely moving away from the lob trend, and going towards long, uncontrolled fringes and face-framing layers (like a modern-day shag!). Guys that have wavy hair are letting the curls come out more, getting comfortable with hair that moves.” - Ali Moss, Stylist, Atelier Emmanuel

“In terms of color, balayage is still the big hit. Summer's blonder shades are being replaced by warmer, darker tones that add dimension.” - Ali Moss, Stylist, Atelier Emmanuel

“Women will become more daring by opting for fringe and cheek-bone length bobs. I say experiment and have fun!” - Sheila Vergara, MUA and hair stylist at LaBelle Day Spas & Salons San Francisco

3.  What are some nail trends we can expect to see this fall and winter?

“Navy blue, dark gray, beige and metallic lacquers will be big this fall and winter. They were all over the runway shows and we’re already getting a lot of requests for those colors here at the salon.” - Nuria Perez, MUA and nail artist at LaBelle Day Spas & Salons San Francisco

4.  What are some beauty tips and tricks you can share with us?

“I say whatever shade of lipstick or eye shadow you choose to wear, do it with confidence. Want to wear shimmer during the day? Go for it. Rules are meant to be broken.” - Deborah Pannier, MUA at LaBelle Day Spas & Salons San Francisco

5.  What are some skincare tips & tricks to keeping our skin soft and smooth this fall and winter?

“Don't skimp on SPF!  Yes, the sun seems like it is hiding and does not feel as strong, but UVA rays are always at work rain or shine, penetrating through clouds, thus damaging our skin and causing it to dry out.  Continue to protect your skin during winter with a good SPF 30, and make sure to reapply during the daytime.” - Wendy Malla, Licensed Esthetician and Business Owner, Absolute Esthetics

“Don't forget indoor heaters wreak havoc on our skin and dry it out.  Don't run the heater full blast at night during sleep or you will wake up with dry skin and dry sinuses!” - Wendy Malla, Licensed Esthetician and Business Owner, Absolute Esthetics

6.  How should we adjust our skincare routine this fall and winter?

“Gentle exfoliation a few times per week for dry/sensitive skin is helpful.  Dead surface skin will act as a barrier for hydrators to penetrate. Removing the dead layer of skin will allow hydrators to penetrate deeper. A gentle enzyme powder is best for dry skin, which, can be mixed in with your favorite cleanser for an even better exfoliating treatment. For those with oily skin and large pore size, you can opt for something stronger that contains glycolic acid or a scrub, but be careful not to over exfoliate, which can be tempting.” - Wendy Malla, Licensed Esthetician and Business Owner, Absolute Esthetics

“Adding a hydration serum into your skincare regimen can make all the difference. Make sure it has a large enough concentration of the following ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium PCA and Sodium Hyaluronate. These are ingredients our skin will recognize and allow to penetrate deep. Just half a pump of serum, and immediately follow with your moisturizer in the morning and evening. The serum should act as a binding agent to pull the moisturizer down and hold it deep in the skin.” - Wendy Malla, Licensed Esthetician and Business Owner, Absolute Esthetics
