San Francisco has a rich history of Irish heritage. Just look at street names like O’Farrell, Broderick and McCoppin Square. So, we know how to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Here’s a list of our favorite events and parties in and around Union Square this year (all day March 17th, unless otherwise noted)!
All day, Mar. 16-17
Located in a charming alleyway on the north end of Union Square, the Irish Bank is the perfect place to enjoy a proper St. Paddy’s Day celebration. Every year they go all out with a block party, complete with traditional Irish music, celtic rock bands, DJs and other performers.
11-5 pm, Mar. 17
Every year the Irish community and friends get together for a jolly festival and parade in Civic Center Plaza and on Market Street. This year’s theme is “Honoring the Celtic Woman” and will include dancing, music, cultural groups, the Police and Fire Departments and more!
Jasper’s is celebrating none other than their namesake famous San Francisco founding father - Jasper O'Farrell this St. Patrick's Day! They’ll be offering two lucky Irish dishes and drinks:
- Irish Lamb Pasty $7: sweet peas, carrot, cheddar mashed potato, stout gravy
- Jasper’s Corned Beef & Cabbage $14: root veggies, new potatoes
- Velvet 75 $8: gin, Guinness, sparkling wine
- J.J. Sour $8: Jameson, lemon, orgeat, Angostura bitters
Adorned with photos of famous Irish writers, Johnny Foley’s makes an apropos setting for your St. Paddy’s day partying. Every night they have live entertainment, and St. Patrick’s Day, they’ll feature Beatles tribute band Ticket to Ride.
Classic San Francisco pub, Lefty O’Douls is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day the old fashioned way with Irish-born Celtic musician Frank O’Conner, who is a pianist, singer and comedian.
Probably the most modern pub in Union Square, Urban Tavern will have a special St. Patrick’s Day dinner with corned beef and cabbage, plus green beer.
