Whether you’re a seasoned Black Friday fanatic who gets up at 3 am every year to hit the shops or you’re a newbie looking to get in on the deals this year, we’ve got some tips and tricks for a fabulous Black Friday in Union Square!
Plan your Attack - We’ve put together the most comprehensive list of Black Friday happenings in Union Square. Consider this your guide to choosing the top stores you want to hit ahead of time. Of course, there’s something to be said for just flying by the seat of your pants, too.
Check your list twice – If you’re planning to get gifts, it never hurts to do a little prep by finding out what your friends and family want this year. Is it luxurious candles from Diptyque? A new cashmere sweater? A Mulberry handbag? Kitchen gadgets from Williams-Sonoma? It never hurts to ask.
Eat, Drink and be Merry – We suggest you make reservations at a top notch restaurant like Claudine, the Rotunda or the new Nespresso Café for lunch. Then, finish the afternoon off with a cocktail at the Burritt Room or a glass of vino at EnoSF. You can even make a night of it and stay in a luxurious hotel room somewhere like the Westin St. Francis or the Kensington Park Hotel.
Timing is Everything – Did you know several shops are opening on Thanksgiving this year and staying open all night through Black Friday? No matter what you think of that, insomniacs and dedicated shoppers might want to hit up the shops late night on Thanksgiving to beat the crowds. Early morning Friday you’re still sure to be first in line to a lot of shops too.
Enjoy Holiday Happenings – Black Friday isn’t just a shopping day in Union Square. You can also catch the Macy’s holiday tree lighting ceremony, a showing of A Christmas Carol at A.C.T., the Nutcracker light show at the Westfield SF Centre, an ice skating session or a number of other activities. Visit our events page for a full list.
Don’t take it too Seriously – In San Francisco, we never take shopping too seriously. Yes, we’re here to score deals, stock up on fabulous designer clothes and grab gifts for friends and family, but we’re not here to knock down old ladies to get the last designer bag on sale! Relax and be nice to your fellow shoppers.
Public Transit is Your Friend – Yes, there are several parking lots in the area, and here’s a list (including reserved parking by ParkNow) if you do drive, but BART and MUNI will both get you right to Black Friday ground zero sans worrying about your car. Check out our Public Transit Page for more info.
Get a Black Friday team together – Shopping is more fun with friends, don’t you agree? Get together a brigade of deal-loving galavanters to maximize the fun.
With these tools in mind, you’re sure to have a fantastic day of deal-finding and enjoying the holiday cheer in Union Square. Happy shopping! Don’t forget to check out our Black Friday page for last minute updates on sales, deals and events.
