Union Square SF’s first ever Food + Art event is coming up on Thursday, August 7th, and we’re brimming with excitement about all the amazing eateries, the tantalizing art gallery openings and the fabulous shop, restaurant and hotel events happening around the neighborhood! To help you plan to hit all your favorite hot spots, here’s a preview of some of these lively happenings!
The Bites & Sips
Arrive early to snag a spot in our tasting area (the first 300 RSVP’d guests to arrive get to partake). Here are some mouth-watering previews of what to expect from our top Union Square restaurants:
Bartlett Hall will serve their exotic Octopus and Watermelon Salad paired with smoked paprika, sesame oil and California chili relish.
Suerte Tequila will spice things up with a seasonal cocktail using their Blanco Tequila.
Farallon will prepare crostinis topped with Dungeness crab and Piquillo pepper aioli.
Burritt Room + Tavern will serve up a decadent beef tartare with sourdough breadcrumbs, cured egg yolk, avocado, queso fresco and fried capers.
The art component of the night’s festivities is sure to expand your horizons and inspire you! Here are some of the gallery openings and events you’ll want to hit up.
K. Imperial Fine Art will hold an artist reception for OUTSIDE / IN, an Exhibit that focuses on the preservation and manifestation of nature using organic forms. The artists explore the intersection of urban life and natural life while advocating for conservation.
Just around the corner from our tasting area, Jenkins Johnson Gallery is featuring Gordon Parks’ American Champion chronicling Muhammad Ali’s heavyweight transformation as well as Ben Aronson’s paintings of SF and LA that play with the idea of the way we perceive California and how the light here changes familiar scenes. A selection of wine and cheese from the team at Luques at the Chancellor Hotel will also be served.
Stop by Scott Richards Art Gallery to catch artist Anna Halldin Maule’s Persona, a beautiful and haunting exhibit of the artists’ hyper-realistic paintings featuring feminine figures in strange and fanciful costumes. Halldin says she’s exploring the “masks women wear in their quest to discover their true selves.” Also, enjoy a tasting of Valley View Wines.
If you walk a few blocks down to The McLoughlin Gallery on Geary St., you’ll be rewarded with a futuristic and provocative exhibit called The Illusionists. With works like the stark yet evocative bar-coded acrylic pieces of Guillermo Bert, you will not want to miss this one!
