Traditional sporting wear – Care for a fox hunt or perhaps an afternoon on horseback? Think of the types of sports you would enjoy if you were at Downton Abbey – then translate that into clothing and you have the makings of this trend. We’re quite taken with this herringbone vest from J. Crew and this equestrian trench coat from Banana Republic. Pair them with these stunning boyar boots from AllSaints and these riding pants from American Apparel, and you’ll be rocking it like Mary Crawley.
Burgundy, baby – We’re not talking about wine, we’re talking about the new “it” color, which is popping up in shops all over Union Square. Try this elegant knit top from Club Monaco or this sassy peplum dress from Armani Exchange. We also find this modern mod dress from Cop Copine tres chic. You can even sport it in a pant with these straight leg winter burgundy pants from Banana Republic.
Girly, sparkly collars – We’re smitten with the new version of the peter pan trend – sparkling collars to show off your pretty face. Try this gold sequined collar on a black blouse from Forever 21. We also heart this sweet pearl and rhinestone collar that can be added to any top from H&M.
Supersized statements – Whether it’s puffed sleeves or an oversized blazer coat, these large and in charge accents are a way to add a little flash to any outfit. We like this puff-sleeved bright red dress from Zara and this velour cardigan from Urban Outfitters.
Going Scottish – Updated from the 90’s grunge era, bold green and red plaids are making a comeback in a new sleeker package. We suggest you sport this cropped, contemporary plaid shirt from Club Monaco or this cozy red button down from soon-to-open Uniqlo.
Snow white – Forget the seven dwarves, you’ll be stunning in winter whites from eggshell to crisp, pure white. Try this lovely off white silk peplum top from Madewell or this sophisticated wool jacquard coat from Zara. We also find this white peasant top by Ralph Lauren at Macy’s quite fetching and this Merritt Charles tank from Industrie Denim tres chic for a casual afternoon.
Luscious leather – Leather is big this year and not just in traditional jacket form. It can be a centerpiece or just the trim on a skirt – faux or
the real thing. For a modern classic, check out the Valley Biker Jacket at AllSaints, which is just dripping in
cool. For a more subtle statement, you might choose this leather-sleeved jacket from Theory or this leather collared dress from Cop Copine. We also heart this leather and jersey mod dress from Bloomingdale’s and find leather adds just the right amount of edge as a trim on this blouse at Club Monaco.
Beautiful Brocade – Richly embellished fabrics are making a splash this fall. Be careful not to go overboard, but rather choose one truly standout piece to wear to that office party or cocktail hour. We think any girl would be dazzling in this plum purple brocade skirt from Anthropologie. If you truly want to steal the show, walk in sporting this sparkling, beaded gold and black Dreamcatcher dress from AllSaints.
Put a feather on it – First it was birds, now we’re getting more meta with feathers – either real or as inspiration. Try these feather-printed trousers from BCBG Maxazria or these subtly feather patterned deep red jeans by Lucky Brand.
Fun with Fur – Fur was once a serious part of a lady’s wardrobe, but with fabulous faux options for every budget, gals can have a little fun with this luxurious accent. For a playful take on the trend, try on this fine knit cardigan with faux fun detachable collar from H&M, and if you want to go all out Downtown offers a haute goat leather and fur jacket for the less faint of heart.
We’ll be eyeing all these fabulous fall fashion trends and more at FNO next week. Hope to see you there!
