It’s that time of year when you get to break out your shorts, sandals and brightly patterned frocks and enjoy some R&R. In Union Square, we’re big fans of vacation wear that you can enjoy other times of the year too, not just on a tropical beach (sorry, no gaudy Hawaiian shirts for us), so take a peek at some of our stylish, comfortable and versatile vacation-friendly clothing picks.
Whether you’re going on a tropical getaway or enjoying an urban adventure, you’ll probably be checking out the sights, trekking around town and absorbing some local color. We suggest light, comfortable and always fashionable clothes for these activities. One of our favorite spots to grab these items is Club Monaco in the Westfield San Francisco Centre. Their casual, urban clothes work well for a walk on the beach or a day out in the city. For guys, we like their Edward linen shirt in white, which is both laid back and handsome as well as breathable. Pair it with their Maddox shorts, which come in a variety of colors – we like the graphite. Ladies can consider the flowing Cooper silk dress in white, which can be dressed up or down, depending on the situation. We also like the Doris jumpsuit (don’t worry; you won’t end up looking like a school girl). With its neutral tones, scoop neck and cute yellow cuffs, this is a grown-up version of a classic romper. Another great shop for playful summer clothes is Madewell, also in the mall. We recommend you start with one of their cute sleeveless blouses like this white eyelet crop top or this sweet silk polka dot blouse. Complete the outfit with a pair of ankle-length Typeset trousers or a these smoky gray cropped jeans designed by Rikke Korff.
A Chic Evening Out
All good vacations include a night out on the town, whether it’s a romantic dinner for two, an evening of dancing to live music or a meal at a gourmet resort restaurant, so you’ll need attire that’s both relaxed and festive. The selection of colorful and cheery apparel at Spanish retailer Desigual works well for this. Check out this short and sweet Torga dress with green and black stripes, an embroidered butterfly and a cross strap back. For a vibrant twist on a classic black dress, consider their a-line Quiel dress with black lace and fun embroidered designs to spice things up. For the gents, we like this Urbanely shirt in white with blue and black pattern circles. If you throw on some jeans and this Omoundo shiny dark blue blazer, you’ll be ready to go wherever the night takes you. Looking for something a bit more metropolitan? We’re big fans of the maxi dresses at Express, especially this snakeskin print, empire waist number. Men would look dapper in this gray, black and white striped polo, particularly if worn with this black button down cardigan.
Lounging in Style
Of course, many vacations include some much-needed time to relax by a pool, the ocean or even on your own deck. We have a few suggestions for fashionable ways to catch some rays, as well. Union Square newcomer and French Riviera born Vilebrequin makes it possible to look classy, even in your swim trunks. We suggest these colorful peacock patterned swim trunks in their classic Moorea cut. For a longer, more contemporary look, you can pick up some of their Okea cut shorts, like this Baobab jungle print pair. Sorry ladies, they don’t carry women’s swimsuits, but you can go back to Club Monaco for a bold orange bikini with gold details. When the sun goes down, cover it up with a chic white poncho dress. For an edgier look, we also like this black and pink geometric bustier bikini from Urban Outfitters. It would look tres a la mode with this black kaftan cover up with a lace-up chest and hood.
