The San Francisco Rock Project is a local non-profit dedicated to inspiring young musicians by providing musical education through live performances and intensive musical instruction. Along with Union Square Live, they will be hosting a youth rock band concert in a belated celebration of Mother's Day.

Local dance theater performer Danse Lumiere is celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge by performing BridgeDance. The dance incorporates oral histories, poetry, memories, and stories about the Bridge. Central to the dance is the architecture of the Bridge and the theme of "bridge-building."

Swing in the Square hosts free swing dance lessons, live music by the West Coast Ramblers, and DJs playing all sorts of swinging music from the 1930s through the 1950s. The West Coast Ramblers are a Western Swing band from the San Francisco bay area. A finely poilshed and sophisticated hot string band fueled with lightening speed and infectious strumming put this band above the rest. The DJ plays from 6 to 7, with the dance lessons beginning at 6:30. Live music and open dancing begin at 7.

Steeped in the cultural histories of San Francisco's African American and Filipino communities, Raissa Simpson's Push Dance Company premier Bitter Melon will be featured onstage at Union Square from May 25 to the 28th. It features 3D video projection by Ben Wood and his collaborator David Mark onto the historic Dewey Monument. Performed by Push Dancers, the collaborative piece highlights interactions with vibrant video and sound. Uncovering the hidden realities of these parallel cultures, this new performance cracks open questions to the contradictions of life: national and cultural identity, natural disaster and war, and the power of loss and redemption.

Local dance company, Dance-A-Vision, offers dance instruction to children, teens and adults of all ages in everything from "Creative Movement" to "Samba Funk." In honor of Mother's Day, dancers from the company will be performing a dance routine as a tribute to mothers everywhere.

David Correa and Cascada have been entertaining crowds and pleasing music-lovers since 1999 with their passionate and distinctive blend of instrumental Latin guitar fusion. Staying true to Latin and Spanish guitar techniques, their music is a blend of Latin folk and Rumba rhythms, fused with Middle Eastern melodies. They have won several awards, including best Latin band in the North Bay three years running.

Local Bay Area band Crosscut plays music that incorporates influences from blues and rock, creating their own mix of original and unique tunes. Heavily inspired by their own musical upbringings, the band draws upon elements from everything to early Delta Blues to Memphis and Chicago Electric Blues, Soul, Motown, R&B, and Rock. They will be bringing their talent to Union Square as part of our ongoing free outdoor concert and performance series, Union Square Live.

Marcus Cohen & The Congress is a soulful collective composed of over a dozen musicians. Playing funky tunes with soul, hip-hop, jazz and gospel influences, the group is driven by a manifesto to reintroduce the depth, love and community found in music. This concert, part of Union Square Live's ongoing series of free performances, is just one stop on their summer tour.

Soulful singer-songwriter Anita Lofton of punk rock origins makes a transition to a more minimalist acoustic approach with her latest venture, the Anita Lofton Project. Collaborating with violinist Zhalisa Clarke and upright bassist Amina Scott, these talented women aim to promote good will by sharing candid original songs. Their performance in Union Square is part of Union Square Live's ongoing summer series of free outdoor perfomances.

Featuring critically acclaimed ensemble Tango No. 9, Union Square's own Tango in the Square offers live performances and free introductory lessons in milonga, tango and vals the first Wednesday of every month.

Luz Gaxiola of Circus Finelli and SF Clown Conservatory grad Jeremy Vik are masters of musical comedy. Their eclectic act incorporates such feats as accordion and kazoo playing, hula hoops, juggling and rola bola. Stop by Hallidie plaza for the morning commute performance from 8 to 9 a.m. or the lunchtime performance from noon to 1 p.m.
