Black Friday tends to bring out divergent responses from people: some are practically frothing at the mouth to get out early in the morning and take advantage of discounts, fun in-store festivities and extended store hours, while others would prefer to sleep in, avoid the crowds and eat Thanksgiving left-overs. Here in Union Square, we like to think we offer the high-end version of Black Friday. Many of our stores provide nibbles and holiday drinks, extend their hours and often discount merchandise, but you won’t find people knocking down doors in the middle of the night or fighting for the last toy of the moment. Instead, you’ll find the Square is filled with people enjoying the holiday spirit and getting a head start on their holiday shopping, possibly stopping to enjoy some ice skating on the Square or to grab a hot chocolate at a café. At the center of all this merriment is the Macy’s Great Tree Lighting Ceremony, which takes over Union Square Park and the surrounding area with musical and ice skating performances and of course, their impressive 83 foot tree. Afterward, there’s no need to rush home, you can enjoy a meal at one of our stellar restaurants or cafés or even make a night of it at one of our boutique or flagship hotels. In this post, we’re giving you a list of Black Friday highlights from shops in Union Square to help you plan your day and be sure to take advantage of all the revelries we have to offer.
