The holiday season is nearing its end, but there’s still one big shebang left: New Year’s Eve. Bust out your top hats and sparkly dresses, it’s time to celebrate in style! We’re big fans of New Year’s Eve here in Union Square. With our plethora of hotels, restaurants and clubs that go all out to throw huge fancy parties with celebrity DJs, open bars, delicious snacks and flowing Champagne; it’s an important night for us. Oh, and did we mention you can see the Embarcadero fireworks show from several of our top-story venues. That’s why we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite events, including parties, special dinners and live music. Slide (430 Mason St.) - Celebrate the Beginning of 2012
Slide, Union Square’s only speakeasy-themed bar, wants you to celebrate New Year’s Eve in style, so they’re putting on a glitzy party with DJ G-Squared and cirque style performance art, plus they’re throwing in complimentary fedoras and boas, so you can get decked out in proper 20’s attire. A bottle service option with globally inspired hors d’oeuvres is also available.
Vessel (85 Campton Pl.) - Cosmic Voyage NYE 2012
Vessel is creating a unique deep-space themed evening with glowing décor, space music and cocktails all created to make you feel as if you’re on a space voyage. DJ Scotty Boy will provide atmospheric beats, so you can dance outer space style all night.
Ruby Skye (420 Mason St.) - New Year’s Eve 2012
Ruby Skye throws a big, fabulous party every New Year’s Eve where you can dance the night away and enjoy delicious refreshments. This year, they’ll be featuring celebrity DJ Cedric Gervais along with a special appearance by the aerial performers from TrapezeWorld. Executive Chef Eric Treiss will also cook up a major feast of passed and stationed delights from saffron paella to herb crusted filet mignon.
Infusion Lounge (123 Ellis St.) – NYE 2012 with DJ E-Rock
Infusion is one of Union Square’s hottest clubs with the added bonus of offering full dinner service. This New Year’s you can enjoy a delicious prix fixe meal by Chef Evan Turner in their dining room, followed by a night of partying on their subterranean dance floor with 99.7 NOW radio host DJ E-Rock.
Parc 55 Wyndham Hotel (55 Cyril Magnin St.) - NYE Massive 2012
For the 10th year in a row, the Parc 55 is bringing three of the world’s most famous cities to San Francisco. You can party in a New York room filled with bumpin’ 80’s and 90’s music, a Miami room with sultry salsa music or a Vegas room where you can dance to top 40 hits. All of the rooms will have live DJ’s and video mixing.
The Grand Hyatt (345 Stockton St.) - Royale 2012 New Year’s Eve
Want an excuse to wear your snazziest outfit? The Grand Hyatt has put together an upscale affair in their luxurious newly renovated ballroom for those who enjoy the finer things in life. Guests will enjoy a premium open bar all evening, alongside hors d’oeuvres, veggie platters and desserts to nibble on. In between sips and bites, a live DJ will have you dancing the night away to top 40.
Westin St. Francis (335 Powell St.) - Passport to the World 2012 NYE Ball
Set in the breathtaking Westin St. Francis this event features art, music and decorations inspired by locations all over the world. 15 DJ’s in seven different themed rooms will spin everything from house to hip hop, and there will be live bands too. If that’s not enough for you, there will be a live fashion show, artists creating live art, stilt-walkers and other acrobats.
The Clift Hotel (495 Geary St.) - New Year’s Eve Ball
For an affair that’s a little more relaxed, you might try the Clift hotel with its dim lighting, plush seating and swanky atmosphere, it’s a great place for a fun, low-key New Year. They’ll be featuring DJ David Caravalho as well as a premium open bar.
The Rrazz Room (Hotel Nikko 222 Mason St.) - A Soulful Jazz New Year with Kim Nalley & Houston Person
If you love jazz, the Rrazz Room is the place to be in Union Square. They constantly bring in extremely talented performers from around the world, who charm audiences in their intimate night club setting. This New Year’s Eve, they’ll be featuring enchanting singer Kim Nalley and famed jazz musician Houston Person.
Harry Denton’s Starlight Room (450 Powell St.) – Ring in 2012 in Style
It’s sure to be a magical evening at the Starlight Room with its stellar views, a gourmet grand buffet and a performance by Fred Ross and the Fred Ross Project. Ross is a Bay Area native singer and songwriter and has performed with a diverse set of acclaimed artists, including Aretha Franklin, Santana and the Commodores.
Biscuits & Blues (401 Mason St.) - John Lee Hooker Jr. New Year’s Eve Two Thousand Eleven
Biscuits & Blues is offering a prix fixe menu featuring seasonal seafood and a Southern flair along with the bluesy R&B stylings of John Lee Hooker Jr.
E&O Trading Co. (314 Sutter St.)
In addition to their usual menu of Asian-inspired delights, E&O is offering a complimentary champagne toast at midnight along with some special additions to the menu to help you ring in the New Year.
Farallon (450 Post St.)
Fans of high-end seafood will not want to miss this special evening at the Farallon. They’ve put together an impressive caviar and truffle tasting menu if you want a truly luxurious evening as well as a five-course tasting menu of their signature seafood creations and other epicurean delights along with wine pairings.
First Crush (101 Cyril Magnin St.)
First Crush will offer a five-course prix fixe dinner of their wine driven California cuisine along with wine pairings. The intimate setting would make an excellent romantic New Year’s Eve for two.
Grand Café (501 Geary St.)
If you’re looking for a delicious pre-party meal, you can stop by the Grand Café for a three-course tasting menu with wine pairings. Grand Café’s serves French-inspired cuisine with a California twist.
Luques Restaurant & Bar (433 Powell St.)
Luques will be open on all New Year’s Eve to serve you their progressive California cuisine in a festive setting. They’ll also be offering a special New Year’s Day brunch.
Puccini & Pinetti (129 Ellis Street)
Another great option for pre-partying eats, Puccini & Pinetti specializes in traditional Italian foods, and they have an affordable four-course meal with optional wine pairings this New Year’s Eve. Guests who are present at midnight will get complimentary glass of bubbly and festive party hats, tiaras and horns.
