We took a little break last week to bring you a handy Father’s Day gift guide, but we’re back with the final post in our wedding series all about the best places in Union Square to get hitched – and have a big party afterward. We have everything from historic hotels to beautiful art galleries where you can hold a fabulous reception, so take a peek and get inspired to throw the shindig of a lifetime.
Hotels are always a nice choice, because you can get married, throw your reception, accommodate your guests and reserve a wedding night suite all in one place. In Union Square we have a variety of options that range from grand and classic to modern and sleek. Perhaps the most obvious choice for someone with traditional tastes would be the beautiful and historic Westin St. Francis. This hotel has several room choices depending on your preferences and the size of your party. We especially love the two extraordinary rooms at the very tippy top of the hotel on the 32nd floor – Victor’s Palace and Alexandra’s - both of which have tall ceilings, giant windows and excellent views of Union Square and the city beyond. If you have more modern sensibilities, you might consider the Grand Hyatt. They offer full wedding planning services as well as a complimentary suite for the bride and groom. You have a choice of the elegant grand ballroom or for smaller parties their Grand Terrace is an inviting space with a stunning view. Another classic option is the Clift Hotel. We love their cozy ambiance and vintage decor with a modern twist created by designer Philippe Stark. They offer several different spaces for anything from an intimate candle-lit ceremony to an all-out dance party. Would you like your wedding to have French flare? The Hotel Monaco with its lovely grand staircase, European décor and catering by the Grand Café makes a wonderful wedding venue as well as a great place to hold a post-wedding brunch.
Hotels aren’t the only option in the Square for your wedding festivities. Some of our art galleries can also be rented out for those looking for unique venues. The Meridian Gallery is housed in a charming 100 year old Victorian on Powell St. If your wedding is on the smallish side it makes a great space with hardwood floors, a spiraling staircase and contemporary art to create a stylish and intimate atmosphere. For a larger party, you might check out the Weinstein Gallery. With tall windows all along the front, you’re surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Union Square, but the best part, if you’re an art buff, is the fact that you’re surrounded by the works of famous artists like Picasso, Miro and Chagall.
The Grand Occasion
If you really want to blow your guests away, there’s one very obvious venue - Union Square Park. Yes, you can book our iconic park for your very own fête. We’ve seen many a luxurious gala take place in a tent on the park. You can truly transform the area, and tents can even be built around the Dewey Monument. Do you have fond memories of sitting in the sun, sharing lunch with your partner? Perhaps this is the spot for you. We’re pretty big fans around here.
