Unearthing the Beauty Within
For me, fall and winter talk to the introverted parts of me. I love that underneath us the earth holds its history in striations. Each layer builds on what came before and adds to what comes after. I observed the parallels in out clothing, each layer protexts and holds a beautiful expression of self.
There is a slightly androgynous feel to this collection. From the more sandy earth tones to the very rich gem-like blues and greens, all the colors from the collection are natural mineral tones. I feel that these two palettes, paired with the combination of structured tailoring and elegant details, can create very striking juxtapositions while mirroring the masculine and feminine aspects of ourselves. I also wanted to incorporate various stripes both as textures and patterns to describe the strata of the underground structures that inspired me.
In developing my designs, I always keep in mind how a piece of clothing will move with the body. They are not static pieces of art, but are to be worn, to be creased, to adapt. For me its very hands-on, tactile process, trying and wearing the pieces at every stage to see how they make me feel, searching for ways to bring together beautiful and luxurious fabrics with designs taht are simple and could be worn on any occasion. Each piece has within it, a balance of different elements that create a stunning but understated look.
